There are about 850 species of ficus, which are also known as fig trees. Native to Southwest Asia and the Mediterranean area, their home is usually in tropical regions. While the common fig produces the fig fruit we’d probably recognise from the shops, other varieties have fruit that is considered more suited to wildlife.

Different Varieties & Styles

Some of the varieties that you’ll find in our fake ficus tree collection are lianas, which are a climbing variety that have a long-stemmed vine-like appearance, the elastica also known as the rubber plant, and the lyrata or fiddle-leaf fig, called so because its broad leaves look like a lyre or fiddle.
